Tofino Forest Landscape Room

Location Toronto, ON, Canada

A young couple relocates from the West Coast to Toronto and builds a beautiful life here. Everything falls into place — except for one quiet ache. Their children will grow up in a wonderful city, but they’ll never have the kind of childhood their parents had in Tofino, BC. The misty mountains, the endless forests of pine, the particular quality of light on the coast. That specific, irreplaceable feeling of that place.

Their wish was simple and profound at the same time: a mural that would carry those memories into their everyday lives — and give them a way to share that world with their children.

The children’s bedroom had a large, uniquely shaped wall that was just waiting for the right idea. And the intention behind the mural made the design direction immediately clear. This would be a hand-painted landscape mural that captured the soul of Tofino — not just its geography, but its feeling. The juxtaposition of rolling countryside and coastal calm. The layered greens of the forest. The particular misty tones and soft sage shades so specific to that corner of British Columbia.

The result is a sweeping panoramic landscape mural featuring rolling green hills, a forest of pine trees in every shade of green, layered mountain ranges fading into the distance, a winding sandy path, and a tiny pink cabin with chimney smoke curling upward — a nod to the home they left behind. The palette draws directly from the Pacific Northwest: soft sage, mint, teal, moss, and dusty blue, lit by a warm yellow sun.

For the parents, it’s a window back to a place they love. For their children, it’s the beginning of a story — new memories being built in front of a landscape that holds the old ones.

Bridging the impossible distance between Toronto and Tofino, one brushstroke at a time.

This wasn’t the only room painted for this family. Right next door, the same wall holds an entirely different world — a nighttime ocean scene where stars and a humpback whale share the same sky. See the companion Ocean & Night Sky Whale Room mural painted for their second child.

We had Renata do two wall murals for us and she was exceptional. From the get-go, she was very responsive and came to check out the space quickly. She worked closely with us to figure out what design would be best, taking in the various books and photos and experiences we told her about which we wanted reflected in the pieces to create something that was beautiful. She also checked in with us about the designs and colour palates, and was responsive to feedback during the process (not that much needed to be modified as she had really listened to what we were looking for!). She was respectful of our home when she came to do the work and was efficient in creating absolutely beautiful artworks in both rooms which we absolutely love! They've been up for a few months now and look fantastic, really brightening the rooms and creating the look and evoking the feelings we were going for. She is so talented and is such a lovely person to work with as well. I honestly couldn't recommend her more! - Maria J.
