Hi there!
I’m Renata Sene — Toronto-based mural artist, recovering architect, and firm believer that the walls around you should make you feel something.
From blueprints to paintbrushes
My path to becoming a mural artist was paved with crayons, a pandemic, and a four-year-old with very strong opinions about his bedroom walls.
After spending most of my career as an architect in Brazil, I moved to Canada and eventually found myself doing what so many parents did during lockdown: sitting on the floor, drawing and colouring with my kids for hours. And somewhere in those hours, something shifted.
It started when my son kept begging — persistently, daily, loudly — for “colourful walls.” When it came time for him to share his bedroom with his little sister, I decided to give him exactly what he wanted. I painted his first mural. And I fell completely, unexpectedly in love with it.
Not just with the painting — but with what happened to the room. The way colour changed the energy of the space. The way a hand-painted wall made a room feel finished, intentional, alive. The way my son looked at those walls and felt seen.
I knew I had to bring that to other families.
What I believe about spaces
Growing up in Brazil, I was surrounded by vibrant colour every day — and I never thought twice about it. It was only after moving to Canada that I understood how deeply those colours had shaped my mood, my energy, and my sense of self. That realisation became the foundation of everything I do.
I believe in what I call sentimental interior design: spaces that connect with the people who inhabit them, rather than the other way around. Art and objects that, despite being new, are rooted in your history — in what matters to you, in who you are — rather than in some passing trend. A mural that holds your memories. A wall that tells your story. A room that makes you company even when the TV is off and you find yourself alone with your thoughts.
That’s what a hand-painted mural can do that nothing else can.
My architectural background means I think about your space holistically — not just the wall, but the room, the light, the furniture layout, the way a person moves through the space. I’ve repositioned beds, reimagined ceiling treatments, and designed wraparound compositions that turn an entire room into a single immersive scene. Because a great mural isn’t just decoration. It’s the thing that makes everything else in the room finally make sense.
And when it comes to kids’ spaces specifically, I bring something extra: I’m a mother. I understand the anxiety of choosing something permanent for a nursery. I know the weight of wanting to get it right. Every paint I use is low VOC interior paint — the same kind used in standard home paint jobs, completely safe for nurseries, newborns, and children’s bedrooms, durable and wipeable for years to come. No harmful chemicals. No experiments on your walls. Just beautiful, lasting colour.
What I create
Every project begins with a conversation — about you, your space, your stories, and the feeling you want to wake up to every morning. From there, I offer:
Custom hand-painted murals — for nurseries, kids’ bedrooms, playrooms, living spaces, home offices, and commercial spaces including healthcare environments, lobbies, and studios. Each one designed specifically for you, your walls, and the story you want to tell.
Peel-and-stick wallpaper — curated designs that bring pattern and personality to your space without the permanent commitment.
Decals — playful, removable accents that add instant joy and can grow and change with your family.
I work with families, homeowners, and businesses across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
What Happy Clients Say
“I have received so many compliments on the beautiful mural she painted and every time I look at it I feel calm and happy, exactly the effect I was looking for.” — Laura G.
“We had Renata do two wall murals for us and she was exceptional. She worked closely with us to figure out what design would be best, taking in the various books and photos and experiences we told her about which we wanted reflected in the pieces to create something that was beautiful. They’ve been up for a few months now and look fantastic, really brightening the rooms and creating the look and evoking the feelings we were going for. She is so talented and is such a lovely person to work with as well. I honestly couldn’t recommend her more!” — Maria J.
“I’m living out my wildest childhood fantasies. I love being in the playroom. I hang out there with the baby because I love the colours and the kids do too. Everyone who comes over is very impressed with the art!” — Ari G.
