Calming Vibrancy Room

Year 2023
Location Toronto, ON, Canada
Surface Type wall

A big blank wall in a newly renovated apartment. If you’re a book lover with a sizeable collection, you have the perfect opportunity to showcase it. If you have an art collection, there’s your gallery wall. But what if you have neither? Are you going to go out and buy things purely to fill the space?

In my dictionary, that’s called clutter.

This homeowner is a minimalist. Clean surfaces, intentional choices, nothing in her space without a purpose. But she still wanted something on that wall — something that would make her feel reflected in her own home and bring her genuine joy every time she walked past it.

— the mural artist enters —

After a deep conversation about her goals, her aesthetic, and her relationship with colour, I came back with a design for a custom abstract wave mural that was meant to feel vibrant and calming at exactly the same time. Flowing waves in rich violet, lavender, deep purple, and soft cream sweep across the entire accent wall in long, fluid ribbons — a hand-painted composition that moves without overwhelming, and soothes without disappearing.

The result brought exactly what she was looking for: a sense of peace, of things falling into their right places. The colours speak to her personally. The movement gives the room life. And the wall, once a source of quiet anxiety, is now the first thing she shows guests.

She still has plenty of surfaces for the pictures, art, and bookshelves she’ll collect over the years. But for now, she has something better — a whole wall that was designed and painted entirely for her, with her in mind.

Renata was a complete pleasure to work with. She took the time to understand my vision and was very open to feedback to ensure she got things right. She came up with a beautiful design and then executed it in a stunning way. She was also very professional and neat while working in my home. I have received so many compliments on the beautiful mural she painted and every time I look at it I feel calm and happy, exactly the effect I was looking for. - Laura G.
